Have a great New Year!

Happy New Year to one and all - here's to a great 2008! To celebrate:
And, though belatedly, I'd like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. I meant to do so on the day itself but I'm embarrassed to say it slipped my mind!

Eagles in the Country Music Hall of Fame???

Should the Eagles be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame? This has been the "talk on the street" around Nashville. Vince Gill was recently quoted as saying the Eagles have influenced more people than Ernest Tubb, and therefore should join him in Country Music's Hall of Fame. This is proving to be somewhat controversial among some of the more traditional country music artists and fans. You can read more about this in articles that were published by the Nashville newspaper, The Tennessean. There are two articles - click here and here to read them. You may want to scroll down the pages and read the comments as well.

Updates?

Sorry for the lack of updates, folks - when Christmastime rolls around, I have to put the Eagles fandom aside for a bit to spend time with the family. However, there's lots of updates on the official site, where you'll find information about "How Long" being one of GAC's Top 50 videos, a new interview with Don Henley, and an upcoming Eagles feature on a VH1 Classic show called "Classic 60 minutes" in March.

Eagles Rumoured to Play Ireland in 2008

This is from the Belfast Telegraph:

"Said a source: 'I know for definite that the promoters are trying to line The Eagles up for one concert or more next year. It is likely to be Dublin, but you can't rule Belfast out, either.'"

Interviews added to download page

I'm about to take off to visit the fam for Christmas, but before I go, I put up a couple interviews. Kate from DFO sent me the Capitol Gold interview. Also, I've added an interview done 15 years ago where Frey, Henley, and Schmit discuss the making of Hotel California on "In the Studio with Redbeard." You can find both on the Fun Audio Downloads Page.

Eagles Hit #1 on Billboard Country Charts

According to Billboard, Long Road Out of Eden is #1 on the country charts, overtaking Garth Brooks's Ultimate Hits. Basically, the best material Brooks has put out over the entirety of his career has been beaten by the Eagles' new work. I almost feel bad for him, having to go against these guys on the country charts. Anyway...

Woot!

Want desperately to have a vinyl LP of every Eagles album? Now you can! Long Road Out of Eden is available on vinyl. You can purchase it off of the official site here if you're in the States; outside of the USA, you can get it from dealers like Amazon.co.uk.

New goodies on the Eagles' official site

On the band's official site, you can find all sorts of goodies on their media page. These include the 60 minutes interview and the Nicky Horne interview (currently just part 1, but parts 2 and 3 are coming this week). Nice!

Monday, November 26, 2007

Long Road Out of Eden #2 on Billboard Country charts

Well, that appeal to country paid off. The Eagles are second only to Garth Brooks on the Billboard country chart this week, and Brooks' album was a Greatest Hits, so they are still the #1 album of completely new work after three weeks. Not bad, guys!

Christmas Wallpaper

Now that we're getting towards the holiday season, I decided to make a Christmas wallpaper. Here it is:

Happy Thanksgiving!

Whether or not one lives in an area that celebrates Thanksgiving today, I hope we can all find a moment to reflect on things in our lives for which we are thankful. It's good for the soul to take note of the positives when most of the time we fret about the negatives. Hope everyone has a great day!

Henley on CNN

You can find a video of Henley doing a brief interview with CNN Entertainment on CNN.com (as well as a longer, written version) and also on YouTube. Enjoy!

Long Road Out of Eden "Deluxe Collector's Edition" Available Nov. 20

According to the official site, on November 20, the Deluxe Collector's Edition of Long Road Out of Eden will be available for purchase at Walmart, walmart.com, Sam's Club, samsclub.com and eaglesband.com. The "deluxe" aspects of it: it contains the bonus tracks "Please Come Home For Christmas" and "Hole In The World", as well as a 40-page booklet with extra photos and desert scenes from the making of the "How Long" video. Hopefully these additional photos will include band members!

In other news, "How Long" is in the running for one of the top 50 videos of the Year on the GAC network. If you want it to win, you can vote for it here. The artists are listed in alphabetical order; however, you'll find the Eagles alphabetized under "T" for "The Eagles." How annoying - alphabetized not only by an article ("the"), but by an article which does not actually technically precede the band's name - nice. Anyway, just drag and drop the video onto the top of the list and then throw in nine others under it. I recommend Brad Paisely's "Online" myself. That video is freaking hilarious.

What a birthday present!

Not only is Long Road Out of Eden number one in Australia and the UK, it has today been announced as number one on Billboard. That is especially noteworthy because Billboard, for the first time, has reversed its policy and recognized the sales figures of an album distributed solely through one retailer.

I imagine Glenn is having a happy birthday indeed!

Capital Gold Long Road Out of Eden Preview

Guys, sorry for the confusion about the posting of the radio show yesterday. I (Nancy) just got back from out of town. We will not be posting it in MP3 form on this site.

It can be found in the Capital Gold archive by doing the following (click on the direction for illustration of step): 1) Go to the Capital Gold Player 2) Click on the middle tab that says "Listen Again". 3) You will see a menu on the right-hand side. Scroll down. 4) Select the option entitled "Last 7 Days: The Classic Album Show". It should play the entire show - 3 hours. The Eagles are the last hour. I presume this program will not be available after 7 days past the air date, so listen to it while you can. Then, prepare to buy the album which at that point will be on the verge of release!

My thanks to the folks who tried to record this and send it to me, though, and the folks who tried to upload it themselves in order to share it. Your efforts are appreciated.

Long Road Out of Eden Preview on the UK's Capital Gold!

Kate, webmistress of DFO, heard this announced on the radio today.

A radio station in the UK called Capital Gold will be doing a four-part series on Long Road Out of Eden starting this Sunday.

And look at this description!

==========

Nicky Horne recently spent four days in LA with the legendary band The Eagles. He had exclusive access to the iconic rock band as they rehearsed for their forthcoming shows in Los Angeles and London. They talked about the brand new album (a 2 disc set featuring 20 songs) 'The Long Road Out of Eden' - The Eagles' first studio album for nearly 30 years!

[...]

Gold has been given unprecedented access to the band which means that the documentary ‘The Long Road Out Of Eden’ will play every track on the album for the first time anywhere in the world!

==========

Holy crap!!

The times are:

Sunday October 21 from 6pm: Part 1 of ‘The Long Road Out Of Eden’

Monday October 22, Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 from 7pm: Parts 2, 3 and 4 of ‘The Long Road Out Of Eden’

Note: Keep in mind these are UK times.

You'll be able to listen to it here.

Saturday, October 13, 2007

Billboard Articles....some mind-blowing news!

There is an interview with Glenn Frey and an interview with Don Henley on Billboard.com with tons of fascinating new information about the album.

Apparently the guys are pretty internet savvy! Henley signs on every day and they are e-mailing MP3s to each other. They also say a lot about collaborating with each other, the content of the album - it's great stuff.

Another one of these facts is that Glenn was inspired to record How Long when his kids saw the video on YouTube. Guess who put that on YouTube, the one and only time it was there? I'm gonna admit it. It was yours truly, Miss Nancy Kerns, just an ordinary average girl who lives in Indiana, and yet...

SO FREAKING COOL.

Lots of News!

Look what happens when I go out of town for a few days to present at a conference in Kansas City!

According to USA Today, there is a 90% chance the Eagles will play at the Superbowl!

Bob Lefstez continues to give more information about the Eagles album. This blog entry discusses Waiting in the Weeds, and this blog entry discusses the song Long Road Out of Eden, among other things. Lyrics are also included.

The Eagles are playing an exclusive gig in London on Halloween according to The Times Online.

Effusively Positive Review from Lefstez

If you're on Lefsetz's listserv, you've probably already seen this item, but just in case you're not, Lefstez posted an absolutely glowing review of the new album - or at least its first few songs. Apparently he hasn't listened to the whole album yet, but what he heard excited him so he had to shoot off this e-mail. The webmistress of DonHenleyOnline posted it on The Border if you want to read it. (It also includes lyrics from Busy Being Fabulous!)

    Billboard Review of How Long

While we're talking about favorable reviews, this one is from Billboard:

"Comebacks are tricky business. An act must sound familiar enough not to alienate enduring fans, yet fresh enough to remain viable. The Eagles pull it off beautifully on the launch single from highly anticipated 'Long Road out of Eden,' their first album of all-new studio material in 28 years. 'How Long' is a vintage gem culled from J.D. Souther's 1972 debut solo effort. (He had a hand in the Eagles classics 'Best of My Love,' 'Heartache Tonight' and 'New Kid in Town.') With clever, literate lines ('Like a bluebird with his heart removed, lonely as a train') and instantaneous singalong melody, the song is commanded by lead vocalists Don Henley and Glenn Frey, who deliver a signature sound as novel and warm as 30 years ago. Joe Walsh contributes a searing guitar solo, and Timothy B. Schmit's distinctive voice bolsters memorable Eagles harmonies. If it took this long for the band to create something this good, 'How Long' was worth the wait. Already a Hot Shot debut at No. 44 at country radio and Most Added at AC, the Eagles' return proves to be more than a fond reminiscence. These guys are simply poised to soar all over again." —Deborah Evans Price

    Tuesday, September 11, 2007

How Long Reviewed in Rolling Stone

The September 20th issue of Rolling Stone had this to say about "How Long":

"The catchy gallop, pitch-perfect twang and sparkling stair-step harmonies of 'How Long' augur well for the other twenty new songs on Long Road Out of Eden, the Eagle's first studio album in nearly 30 years--if you're content with deja vu. The track rolls and beams like a freshly scrubbed 'Take It Easy,' although you can clearly hear the difference between then and now in the unintended truth of one line near the end: 'What you get is not quite what you choose.' This time around, you'll only be able to buy your Eden at Walmart."

The song received 3 1/2 out of 4 stars!

New Download - Footage from the Walden Woods Benefit 1990

We've had tons of new stuff, how about a "new" oldie? I've put up a clip from MTV's Week in Rock back in 1990 where they show brief footage of the famous Walden Benefit from 1990, which featured the first time in ten years that Glenn Frey played on a stage with Don Henley and Timothy B. Schmit. Check it out on the Fun Stuff Video Page.

    Latest from the band

This bulletin was just sent out from the band's MySpace:

    Finalized Track Listing Now Available

Check it out! An article on Billboard.com gives the final, 20-song track listing, just as Frey said it would be in Niagara Falls. Here it is:

    Disc one:
"No More Walks in the Wood"
    "How Long"
    "Busy Being Fabulous"
"What Do I Do With My Heart"
    "Guilty of the Crime"
"I Don't Want To Hear Anymore"
    "Waiting in the Weeds"
    "No More Cloudy Days"
    "Fast Company"
    "Do Something"
    "You Are Not Alone"

    Disc two:
    "Long Road Out of Eden"
"I Dreamed There Was No War"
    "Somebody"
"Frail Grasp on the Big Picture"
    "Last Good Time in Town"
"I Love To Watch a Woman Dance"
    "Business As Usual"
    "Center of the Universe"
    "It's Your World Now"

And yes, I Dreamed There Was No War is indeed after Long Road Out of Eden. I guess our brains will get a nice chance to rest after all! This is especially good because it looks like Frey wasn't exaggerating about the length of the song either!

Eagles Online Central has a MySpace

Hey, if it's good enough for the Eagles, it's good enough for Eagles Online Central. Here's the URL: http://www.myspace.com/eaglesonlinecentral - check it out!

    By request....

I had a request to put up Jimmy Buffett's introduction of the Eagles at the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. You'll find it on the Fun Stuff Video Downloads!

How Long Video on Official Site and MySpace

In addition to now being able to stream the video through YouTube and Walmart's Eagles page (big version there), it has also been added to the band's MySpace video page as well as on the official site. The official site version is a bit small, however! It is also on CMT.com, VH1.com, and MTV.com.

    Eagles sightings:
    • CMT.com has stated that "the Eagles' 'How Long' has the most spring in its step, bouncing in at No. 44" here.

News for Non-US Folks About Album

The Eagles have posted this on MySpace:

"'Long Road Out Of Eden' will be released worldwide outside North America on Oct. 29, both physically and digitally, by Universal Music Group."

Looks like non-US residents are actually getting it first!

    How Long Video Page Up

I made a video page for How Long - it has screen shots and a link to the streaming video. I also put up the lyrics to How Long - have fun figuring out what they mean!

Some friendly advice: pre-order album through official store instead of Walmart

Apparently Walmart is having difficulty getting the free downloads of How Long to people who have pre-ordered through its site. A Walmart representative told me that receipt of the download could take up to one week. The official site, however, can provide you with the download immediately after you pre-order.

You can also pre-order the album at the Eagles site

I wanted to add that one could also pre-order the album at the official Eagles store. If you do that, you have the option to add in an exclusive T-shirt. Also, if you pre-order before Sept. 21, you have a chance to enter a drawing. More information on that is here.

Speaking of additions, I have put up a new page for Long Road Out of Eden era photos. Right now it has all of two, but I can't wait for it to grow!

You might also notice the new banner. Just trying to keep up with the times!

    Walmart pre-order page back up!

Yep, here it is: Pre-order CD at Walmart

As promised before, you get a download of How Long with your pre-order. Sweet!

    Pre-order problems

Walmart has pulled the product page for the new album temporarily, as you probably noticed if you tried to click on the link. Don't panic, it'll be back!

    Spokesperson confirmation about new album

Since spokespeople are more careful about what they say than the artists themselves, I was excited to read on the El Paso Times that a spokesperson for Henley states that "fans should expect delivery [of the new album] by the end of the year."

    Welcome to Eagles Online Central!

Hello! Welcome to our new Eagles site. It's designed with the idea of bringing together the network of Eagles Online sites: GlennFreyOnline, DonHenleyOnline, TimothyBSchmitOnline, JoeWalshOnline, and when they're finished, RandyMeisnerOnline, BernieLeadonOnline, and DonFelderOnline. With this new centralized site, if you'd like to download all of the Eagles stuff on any of the member sites, you can do so from one place. If you'd like to look up any Eagles lyrics, they're all here. The site's search engine is designed to search not only the main site, but all the member sites.

For those of you who've already perused the member sites, you'll have seen most of these photos, articles, and downloads before. However, doing an Eagles site has given me a chance to expand upon generalized information related to the Eagles, as you can see when you take a peek at All About the Eagles. I plan to add more as time allows.

This site is a pretty ambitious project and it may take a long time to get it all together, but I wanted to go ahead and open this now. I am going to be enlisting the aid of all the webmistresses of the various member sites to keep it current. If you have any feedback or suggestions, feel free to e-mail me.

    So... after all that...

Enjoy your visit to Eagles Online Central!
